About
I'm John. I'm in my eighth year of teaching and tutoring maths. Before that I spent a long time in broadcast journalism — teaching came later, because I wanted to help young people reach their potential.
I chose maths because I noticed the same students kept getting told they were "bad at maths" when really they just needed a handful of key concepts taught properly. Once those click, the rest follows.
Why a group, not 1:1
- Everyone's in the same boat. No student feels like the only one who needs help.
- No over-reliance on hand-holding, which tends to hurt independent learning.
- Peer learning genuinely speeds up progress.
- 1:1 can be intense and, for some students, more stressful than useful.
- About a third of the cost of private 1:1 tutoring at the same intensity.
What parents say
A big thanks to John for helping Eadie catch up with her maths work over the past month. Highly recommend John as a teacher.

They support my children's learning with respect and patience. They've even helped with maths homework from school, showing me so I can then support at home too. My children love going.
